SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Campobello man was sentenced to almost two decades in prison Tuesday for sexually abusing a child.

Samuel S. Owens, 46, pleaded guilty and was given an 18-year prison sentence for first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a minor, the Spartanburg County solicitor Barry Barnette announced.

Barnette said the assaults happened multiple times and spanned several year, and were reported to the sheriff's office June 11, 2011.

After failing a Polygraph test, Owens openly admitted to improperly touching the child, Barnette said.

Owens must serve 80 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for release. He will also be added to the sex offender registry.

Barnette said Owens was previously convicted of criminal domestic violence.
