GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Hundreds of Duke Energy customers in Greenville County woke up to powerless homes Thursday morning.

According to their website, 1,586 customers were without power in the Poinsett Highway area, near Cherrydale and North Franklin Road, as of 8:30 a.m.

A spokesperson for the utility company said there was a fault on an underground line about 6 a.m., affecting about 2,000 customers initially.

The spokesperson said all customers should have their power restored by about 9 a.m. if not shortly afterwards.

Drivers in the area should use caution in case any traffic lights are without power. The Highway Patrol reported one light was out at 6:48 a.m. at the intersection of Poinsett Highway and New Plaza Drive.
