RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

One of three candidates for the open Richmond school superintendent position has withdrawn from consideration, according to sources.

Dr. Anthony Jackson, currently the superintendent of Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools in North Carolina, notified school board members of his decision to withdraw Friday. He cited personal and professional reasons for the decision.

Jackson was one of three finalists from a pool of around 80 applicants. The withdrawal leaves Richmond with two finalists for the open position: Dr. Dana Bedden, former superintendent in Irving, Texas; and Dr. Calvin Watts, an assistant superintendent in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

Jackson was part of a community forum at Albert Hill Middle School Wednesday, alongside the other two candidates. The school system is set to make its decision on the position Monday.
