A 48-year-old man from Southeast Portland died Sunday night from injuries he suffered when he was hit by a TriMet MAX train.
Portland firefighters were called out to the 9400 block of Southeast Division Street at about 4 p.m. after the MAX train hit Phu Nguyen as it approached the Division Street station.
Officials say Nguyen became trapped under the train and firefighters used various tools, including air jacks, to slowly raise the train and pull him out.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
TriMet says preliminary information indicates Nguyen walked or ran in front of the southbound train as it was slowing down and approaching the platform. They have not released any other information about their investigation.
MAX Green Line Service was disrupted and shuttle busses during the rescue effort. Service on the Green Line was restored at about 6:15 p.m.
