FINGERVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies say counterfeit money is being passed around in the Fingerville area of Spartanburg County.

Fake $20 bills have already duped one victim when she was holding a yard sale Dec. 20.

Amanda Melton says her family held the sale to raise some money to buy Christmas gifts for the younger children in their house.

Melton says four adults got out of a silver vehicle with a hatchback and offered money to buy a microwave, TV and clothes. Melton says they handed her two $20 bills as payment.

Later when Melton's mother tried to use that money at a Fingerville convenience store off Rainbow Lake Road, she was informed the money was fake.

"We didn't know, we didn't have a marker at our garage sale, it looked pretty real," said Melton. "Once we realized it was a fake, I noticed it was a little bit whiter in color than normal $20 bills."

Melton says the suspects were two males and two females, and one of the females was pregnant.

If you have any information about the fake money, you're urged to call Crimestoppers at 888-Crime-SC.
