Newberry County deputies are working to determine who killed a Newberry woman who was found dead in her home Saturday night.
Deputies said the friend stopped by the home of Andrenna Butler, 66, about 10:30 p.m. after they had tried several times to contact her.
The friend had spoken to Butler about noon on Friday and had not heard from her since, deputies said. They said when the friend got to Butler's U.S. Highway 176 home, she got inside through the garage door and saw Butler lying on the floor inside.
Deputies said the coroner's office is still working to determine how Butler died, but they said her death is suspicious and are investigating it as a homicide.
According to Sheriff Lee Foster, Butler was recently estranged from her husband of more than 50 years and had recently lived alone. Deputies said there were no signs of forced entry, no sign of theft and the alarm system had not been activated.
Anyone that may have seen anything between the hours of noon Friday and 10:30 p.m. Saturday or has any information regarding this case is asked to call the Newberry County Sheriff's Office at 803-321-2222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
