GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A local businessman and blogger is getting some widespread attention for a post about controversial comments made by a cast member of television show Duck Dynasty.

James Akers Jr. wrote in the post on his website that Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson shouldn't have been suspended from the show.

Robertson was suspended last week for comments made in an interview with GQ Magazine in which he made comments many considered homophobic and racist.

In Akers' post, "A gay guy's perspective on Phil from Duck Dynasty," he wrote:

"In America we all have the right to our opinions, especially as it relates to religion.  Me judging his views of what is and is not a sin is no more fair and right than him judging who I love.  I actually think God would not have made me gay just to send me to hell.  I think God, my God at least, is a little more loving and caring than that.  I think just because the person I love is a man, it does not mean that love is a sin…but I digress.  Here in America we all the right to our opinion.  We also have the right to change the channel.  If I do not agree with Phil then I will not watch his show…buy his merchandise…or be his friend on Facebook?  Who cares what a redneck in the swamp thinks about me…further more, who didn't see that coming."

Akers said his blog has received more than 125,000 views from more than 20 countries since it was posted Thursday.

"I've been shocked," said Akers. "Shocked that people care what I have to say, care what he had to say and shocked that the same people who are adamantly defending his right to voice his opinion are attacking me for voicing mine."

Akers' blog has received more than 300 comments with both support and opposition to his views.
