Phoenix classmates give friends recently diagnosed with cancer gift of music

PHOENIX (CBS5) -
It's easy to get caught up in the superficial side of the holiday season, and it sometimes takes a group of kids to remind us what this time of year is really all about.

A group of very thoughtful parents and kids are giving the gift of music to cheer up two of their friends who were diagnosed with cancer this year.

"I like Black Sabbath and Soundgarden," said 6-year-old Marcus Klepacki.

Marcus was born with one arm and severe scoliosis. In October, he was diagnosed with leukemia.

His friends at school wanted to do something to make him and another classmate, Jordan Kennedy - also diagnosed with cancer - feel better.

"It was about a Christmas gift to help me," Marcus said.

"Our theme was change the world with your music and shortly thereafter we found out Jordan and Marcus were battling cancer," said Marcus' music teacher, Jodi Light, who wrote the song. The entire class recorded it and made a video.

"I think what their Christmas wish would be is for Jordan and Marcus to be well and feel well," Light said.

"The song is - it's awesome," said Marcus' mother, Melissa Klepacki. She said the song truly is the best gift her son could've gotten this year.

"Its not the gifts, it's about love and giving to people that need a little extra help," Melissa Klepacki said.
