Shoppers flood Greenville stores for last-minute Christmas items

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Stores around the Upstate stayed open late Monday on the eve of Christmas Eve.

"Don't wait until the last minute," advised shopper Nicole Calhoun. "Pickings are slim, it comes down to the last on a lot of things."

This in an effort to get last-minute shoppers through the aisles and back home to their families. Stores like Toys"R"Us and Kohl's stayed open all night.

The deals came at a time when stores are seeing lower-than-normal sales during the holiday season, reports say.

"I think it's been steady, but it's also been a little slower than last year, but not significantly lower," said Lauren Wiesner, staffer at Hand Picked in Greenville. "If you have something in particular in mind, have more open options - more of an open mind to get something else, just in case," she said to last-minute shoppers.

But retailers in Greenville still have full parking lots.

Even with a data breach at major retailers like Target, shoppers are showing no fear and swiping their cards at registers everywhere.
