SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two people are dead and one person is injured after a vehicle crashed into a house Tuesday night.

Simpsonville police said the car crash happened just before 9:30 at a home on Hunters Woods Drive, off Fairview Road.

Authorities identified those killed as Richard Bellew, 42, of Fountain Inn, and Shannon Hitt, 21, of Laurens.

Greenville County deputy coroner Kent Dill said the vehicle they were riding in struck a mailbox, overcorrected, ran off the roadway, struck several trees, overturned and then struck the home.

Bellew was pronounced dead at the scene. Hitt later died at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A third person involved in the accident was ejected from the vehicle.

Neighbors said the people who lived in the home were there at the time, but they were not injured.

Allegra Harris, the granddaughter of the homeowners, said that her family was at home at the time of the crash. She said her grandmother was in the room that got hit by the truck, and that a beam came close to landing on her head, but she was able to safely jump out the way.
