RALEIGH, NC (AP) -

The board of North Carolina's new Clean Water Management Trust Fund has approved funding for 30 land conservation projects aimed at guarding water quality and protecting endangered species.

The board recently approved allocating $16.2 million.

Funded projects include priorities for the N.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Resources Commission, N.C. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Cultural Resources.

Specific projects being funded include protection of an additional 680 acres on the North Fork of the French Broad River in Transylvania County, and protection of another 300 acres as buffer for Camp Lejeune in Onslow County.

These were the first awards made by the reconstituted Clean Water Management Trust Fund, which absorbed the duties of the Natural Heritage Trust Fund during the last session of the General Assembly.
