The Asheville area has been no stranger this year to rain - in fact, and new numbers out show it was a record.

The Associated Press reports that Asheville received nearly 30 inches above it's yearly normal, according to the National Climatic Data Center.

The center said the area received just over 74 inches for the year, which beats the previous record of nearly 65 inches set in 1973.

The highest amounts of rain came during the summer, leading to landslides in the area.
