SWANNANOA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Buncombe County Sheriff's deputies said they were fired on, and a house was set on fire after they arrived at a home in Swannanoa on Friday night.

Saturday afternoon, investigators confirmed that they found remains of a male body, believe to have been involved in the domestic disturbance.

Officials identified the remains as Thomas Alfred Roberts, 57, of Swannanoa. His family has been notified, but the coroners' office will complete an autopsy, to positively identify the remains.

Deputies who arrived at 124 College Circle at 8:12 p.m. were met with gunfire after they took a woman out of the house for her protection, according to Public Relations Coordinator Natalie Bailey. The deputies, she said, did not return fire.

Deputies said the house then became engulfed in flames.

After the fire was contained to the home, a search got underway for the man who was inside the home.

No one was injured in the shooting and deputies did not return fire, according to Bailey.

The investigation is ongoing.
