ELLENBORO, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Rutherford County sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Ellenboro Sunday afternoon, where they said a woman was run over by a vehicle and a man was shot.

Detectives said they found Geneine Conner in the driveway of a home on Race Path Church Road with injuries to her leg and hip.

They found Tommy Smith about 50 yards away from the home near Hudgins Road. They said that Smith had been shot in the chest.

Investigators said it all started from an argument in the home, which grew into a physical fight between Timmy Smith and Jeff Conner.

They said as Tommy Smith was trying to leave the home with Timmy Smith, he ran over Geneine Conner. Geneine's husband, Ralph Conner, then shot through the windshield of the car they were driving, and hit Tommy Smith in the chest.

According to investigators, Geneine Conner was taken to Cleveland Regional Hospital and is expected to recover.

Tommy Smith, however, was flown to Mission Hospital in Asheville for surgery.

This is an ongoing investigation.
