The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a New Year's Eve wreck near Gaffney in Cherokee County that killed a 50-year-old Union woman.

According the Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler, 50-year-old Ruth Ann Allman Magner was traveling south on Highway 18 around 8 p.m. Tuesday when she lost control of her 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck near the intersection of Dawkins Road. Fowler says the truck ran off the road, down an embankment and hit a tree. He said Magner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fowler said Magner's two grandchildren, a 3-year-old boy and a 3-month-old girl, were both properly restrained in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident. They were both flown to the hospital.
