Deputies: Man charged after teen kidnapped, sexually assaulted in Greenville hotel

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man is facing charges after a teen was reportedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted at a hotel on New Years, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

On Dec. 31, a 14-year-old girl was reported missing by her grandparents and returned the next morning saying she had been sexually assaulted at a local hotel, according to Omar Yahya of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Yahya said the girl's grandparents contacted the sheriff's office and they were able to locate the suspect, Alex Anthony Byrd, at the Country Hearth Inn on Bruce Road.

Byrd has been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to online jail records provided by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

According to Yahya, the penalty for being convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor is no more than 30 years in prison.
