SC Guard's final Vietnam War veteran retires

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina National Guard is saying goodbye to its final Vietnam Veteran.

The Guard is holding a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday to honor Chief Warrant Officer Eric Seymore as he retires after 43 years of service. The event is being held at the Adjutant General's Building auditorium in Columbia.

Seymore started his military career in 1970. He flew helicopters for the 114th Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam and joined the South Carolina Army National Guard in 1972 in St. Matthews.

Seymore has flown 16 different aircraft during his service. He retires as the state's Command Chief Warrant Officer.

Seymore lives in Easley and has two sons who also have served in the military.
