DSS: No bed sharing with infants on these very cold nights

COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Department of Social Services has issued a reminder to parents to use safe sleeping practices on these cold winter nights.

In a press release, DSS said babies who sleep in the same bed as parents or siblings are at risk of suffocation or strangulation. Sheets and blankets can also be hazardous, as babies may get tangled up in them.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, babies should be placed on their backs in a crib to sleep. Soft objects, toys, and loose bedding should be kept out of the crib. Also, babies should be dressed in light sleep clothing to prevent overheating.
