Duke Energy said it is conducting a planned outage from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Lake Lure, NC. The company said it must perform preventive maintenance on a substation in order to help protect equipment due to high customer demand because of cold weather.
Duke Energy spokeswoman Erin Culbert said most customers in that area would be affected between 15 - 30 minutes at most.
Culbert said the brief inconvenience will help the substation continue to meet demand during the cold snap. She said no other outages are planned in the western Carolinas at this time.
Duke Energy issued a news release earlier on Tuesday asking people to conserve power because of high demand in the cold weather.
