Wofford's head coach on his way out?

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Mike Ayers has confirmed that he's interviewing at Georgia Southern for the same position. The Terrier's Athletic Department released this statement from Ayers on Wednesday:

"Today I interviewed at Georgia Southern. The opportunity to talk with them would not have been possible without all of the success that we have had at Wofford, which is the result of all the hard work that our coaches and student-athletes have put in over the years."

Ayers has been the head coach at Wofford since 1988. He's taken the Terriers to the FCS Playoffs five of the last seven seasons.

Ayers won the Eddie Robinson Award in 2003 after leading Wofford to a 12-2 record. It's given to the most outstanding FCS coach every year.

The Terriers are coming off a down year. They were 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the Southern Conference.

We'll continue to update this story as it develops.
