CALHOUN FALLS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man was sentenced to four decades in prison on Thursday for the death of a 10-month-old Calhoun Falls baby girl in 2012.

Shawn White, the live-in boyfriend of the baby's mother, was found guilty by a jury at the Abbeville County courthouse and sentenced to 40 years by Judge Donald Hocker.

The solicitor David Stumbo said they had asked for a life sentence during the sentencing hearing.

According to the police report, Emily LaBounty had injuries from forced trauma to the head.

Police were called to the child's home on Aug. 8, 2012 after she began having trouble breathing and started throwing up.

Police said the girl was first taken to a Greenwood hospital and then transferred to Greenville Memorial, where she later died.
