GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A local pastor and a local activist are teaming up to create a new church for teens and young adults in Greenwood County in hopes of curbing violence.

"There have been dozens of shooting and murders in this area recently, mostly by young people, and we've been trying to come up with a way to reach them and help stop the violence," said Jack Logan, founder of the Greenville based anti-violence group Put Down the Guns Young People. "We've done just about everything to try and get through, and now we're going to get the Lord involved."

Logan said Pastor Darian Blue of Greenville's Nicholtown Baptist Church is founding the new church, which will be called Nicholtown South Missionary Baptist Church.

The church will hold services every Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Brewer Recreation Center on North University Street.

"I'll be out with my bull horn in problem neighborhoods every Saturday, trying to help build awareness," Logan said.

Logan said Put Down The Guns Young People members would also help bus people to and from the church services.
