Deputies: Thieves cause $10K in damage to Duke substation, Spartanburg business

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said metal thieves caused more than $10,000 in damage to a Duke Energy substation and local business.

Deputies were called to Gibbs International on Fairview Church Road Monday after they said an employee discovered someone had cut copper wiring to the power substation.

According to deputies, a fence at Gibbs had been cut causing $250 in damage and then with the damaged wire, $10,000 in damage was done to the power source from the substation.

According to the deputy's report, the theft and damage happened between midnight Friday and 8:30 a.m. Monday.
