PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Four people were taken to a hospital as a precaution after a house fire left five people homeless early Wednesday morning.

The fire was fully involved and smoke was pouring out two bedroom windows by the time Phoenix firefighters arrived at the home near 35th and Southern avenues about 4 a.m., said Phoenix fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra.

Two adults and three children were outside and two of the children suffered minor injuries, Saavedra said

Four of the five residents were taken to a hospital for evaluation, Saavedra said.

A woman living in the house told firefighters there were no working smoke detectors, Saavedra said.

Firefighters tried to resuscitate a dog found in the house, but the dog died, Saavedra said.

The residents will need to find temporary housing, Saavedra said.

The investigation into the cause was continuing.
