Police examine timeline in suspicious Chesterfield teen death

Posted: Updated:

Chesterfield police are trying to figure out how a teenager died overnight Monday into Tuesday.

Authorities say Alyna Davis was last seen with friends around midnight and that there was nothing unusual about her evening.

"Where she was staying is right there off Strathmore," explained Lt. David Shand. "And where they believe she is going is to the other side near Chippenham to some apartments."

It's a short walk across the overpass, but that's the last time she was seen. At 3 a.m., police at the Defense Supply Center did patrols and didn't notice anything odd. At 4:30 a.m., someone coming to work found her body just outside the gate and told police.

Police from the Defense Supply Center were the first to rush to the scene and perform CPR. Chesterfield Police arrived shortly afterwards and Davis was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

How she got to the median is the biggest mystery. To get to the apartments, she'd likely cross the overpass bridge. However her body had no trauma, as one would expect from a fall or hit-and-run accident.

There is only one way to the road. There are fences on either side, and a big police presence just yards away.

Police also say there was nothing unusual about her body or her clothes at the scene or any indication of what she was doing for all that time.

"18-year-olds don't just usually die, so that's what's suspicious about this," said Shand. "That, and where she was found without any signs of trauma."

One clue that might be helpful to police is video from the Defense Supply Center entrance. There are a number of cameras which could have a straight line of sight from the front entrance to the area where the body was found.

Police say they'll watch the video and continue interviewing friends. Information from the medical examiner could shed more light on when and how Davis died.

Police are also looking into when the teen was last using a phone or social media, though she did not have a phone when they found her.

A few friends submitted statements about Davis:

"Hello I'm very close to Alyna Davis, she had such a big heart and would do any and everything for her friends and family . She was always around when I needed someone to talk to. I met her my sophomore year at Meadowbrook high school and from there on we just had become closer then close. My heart is heavy , not knowing the accurate story  on how this wonderful , loving individual died just bothers me. All Alyna wanted to do was graduate this year and make something out of her life but now she doesn't have that opportunity." - anonymous

"Alyna was like a sister to everyone we all loved her so much and will forever remain to. I wish she was here but I was always told the good die young. #FlyInHeavenAlyna♥ I will always love you." - anonymous

"It's only been a day & I miss you so much already. I can't believe this. I've shed a lot of tears thinking about you. But I've also smiled , remembering all the times we shared.. Anybody who knew you, knew you were such a great person. You were always smiling & cracking jokes. We had our ups & downs, but what friends don't? I'll never forget you Alyna, I love you. Rest in peace." - RaNeicha Broadnax.

"I've known Alyna since I moved to Virginia. Alyna was like a sister to me or maybe even something more. She was a great friend to everyone , including myself. I loved her way too much to just find something out like this. But once in for all she will rest in paradise."
