MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The McDowell County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help identifying a suspect who they said attempted to break into an ATM machine.

Deputies said someone broke into North Cove Truck Service, on U.S. 221 North, and tried to pry open the ATM machine on Jan 10.

The suspect was not able to get money out of the machine but caused $7,000 worth of damage, deputies said.

The sheriff's office said the suspect is a man with dark hair and a heavy build wearing blue jeans, a blue zip-up hoodie and black shoes. They said the man and another person were seen leaving the area in a newer model blue four-door car, which appeared to be a Honda or Hyundai.

Deputies released surveillance photos from the business showing a vehicle and a man fitting the description.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 828-65-CRIME or detective Nathan Mace at 828-652-2237.
