HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies in Henderson County said they charged one of their own after the school resource officer was accused of having sexual contact with a student he was assigned to protect.

Chief Deputy Frank Stout said Deputy Daniel Lindsey, 27, was taken into custody at his Mountain Rest home just after midnight on Saturday and charged with three felony counts of sex offense with a student.

Stout said Lindsey was a school resource officer at the Balfour Educational Center.

Stout said the sheriff's office learned about the accusations on Friday afternoon and immediately began investigating.

Sheriff Charles McDonald said deputies discovered evidence that Lindsey had sexual contact with a then 16-year-old female on three occasions on October and once in December 2013.

McDonald said there is no evidence that Lindsey was involved with any other students.

Lindsey began working with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office in 2008 and was terminated at the time of his arrest, McDonald said.

Lindsey was arraigned and released on a $45,000 bond and is expected to make his first appearance in court on Tuesday, McDonald said.

McDonald said deputies are working with the district attorney's office and that he expects that more charges will be added against Lindsey.
