Forest Service closes 5 roads in Pisgah Forest

Posted: Updated:

PISGAH FOREST, N.C. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service has closed five roads in Pisgah National Forest to protect the public and resources.

Forest Service officials say freezing and thawing caused soft road conditions that make driving so difficult that people could become stranded. In addition, traffic can cause both more damage to the roads and sediment runoff into streams.

The roads will be closed until conditions improve.

The closed roads are: Headwaters Road from Davidson River Road to Gumstand Gap; Wolf Ford Road; Avery Creek Road from Pisgah Stables north to Route 276; Bent Creek Road from just after Ledford Branch Trailhead to the Blue Ridge Parkway; and Wash Creek Road from the parkway to the junction of Hendersonville Reservoir Road.

Courthouse Creek and Yellow Gap roads will be closed if conditions deteriorate more.
