TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Hundreds of people gathered at Saint Augustine Cathedral today to remember Patrick Balbastro, who was killed New Years Day.
Those who knew him described him as a kind man with a big heart.
Early New Year's morning, Balbastro saw a woman, Cindy Burnett, being assaulted by her boyfriend, Michael Leday, on the road. Balbastro called 911 and got out of his car to help the woman. Leday then got into Balbastro's car and drove over Burnett, Balbastro and his girlfriend.
Today, family and friends are able to honor Balbastro at the service.
This week, US Marshals caught Michael Leday in Kansas City. He had been on the run since the incident.
