Deputies investigate crash, deadly shooting in Williamston

Posted: Updated:

Deputies in Anderson County are investigating a vehicle crash that led to a standoff with officers and a self-inflicted deadly shooting Saturday night.

Lt. Sheila Cole said deputies were called to the scene of a rollover crash on Beaverdam Road in Williamston around 9:45 p.m.

Cole said officers with Williamston Police Department had arrived on scene minutes earlier and found an overturned pick-up with a male trapped inside.

Cole said the man told the officers he had a gun and threatened to shoot himself.

The Williamston officers backed away from the truck and secured the area until deputies arrived, Cole said.

Cole said deputies arrived and tried to negotiate a peaceful end, but that's when Cole said the man shot himself.

The coroner was called to the scene and is investigating the death.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Cole said deputies are investigating to find out what led up to the crash and self-inflicted shooting.
