WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The family of a man who was found dead in a burned Oconee County home Friday still have a lot of questions about his death.

Richard Marszalek, 61, was found Friday in the rubble of a burned home after he was reported missing. Deputies said he went missing just before the New Year. Just six days after he went missing, the home he was living in burned down. Investigators believe his roommate, Patrick Grant Covone, and another man, Joshua Fulbright, killed him. Both men were arrested in connection with his death.

"The relationship between him and the roommate still remains unclear, we're unclear exactly why this occurred, we don't know exactly when it occurred," said Marszalek's niece, Valerie Marszalek-Boik.

She lives in Chicago with Marszalek's other family members. She said Marszalek was planning on moving back to Chicago, but he did not give any indication that he had a problem with the man he was living with.

The last time the family spoke with Marszalek was at Christmas.

They learned of his disappearance through a woman named Courtney Beasley, who spoke with FOX Carolina Wednesday and said she had a feeling that he was "not alive."

Beasley claimed she was Marszalek's niece, but deputies deny that, saying Beasley is just a close friend of the victim, adding that many in the community close to him referred to him as "Pop," "Unc" or "Uncle."

The Facebook page dedicated to finding Marszalek is now a memorial page commemorating his life and accomplishments, including his service in Vietnam.

"Our family is very traumatized," said Marszalek-Boik. "It really is heartbreaking."
