Deputies: McDowell Co. manhunt ends with suspect in custody

MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

McDowell County deputies said a suspected car thief is in custody on Tuesday evening following a wreck and a manhunt.

Deputies said the car was stolen from Soapy Suds on Rutherford Road on Tuesday morning and then wrecked along Mount Pleasant Church Drive near Goose Creek Road. Deputies said the theft was not reported until after the car was found wrecked about 7:45 a.m.

According to deputies they were actively looking for the man near a cornfield off of Goose Creek Road.

Deputies said the man was captured around 3:30 p.m., following a manhunt that lasted several hours.

The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time.
