MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

McDowell County deputies said the man who led them on an eight-hour manhunt Tuesday is connected to a few local car thefts, including the theft of a dump truck.

Deputies said David Cable, 36, was located about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday near Dink Cannon Road and was identified as the man accused of stealing the dump truck from a Soapy Suds car wash, then wrecking it and fleeing on foot.

The truck was owned by GEM Constructors and was stolen from an open field beside the car wash on Rutherford Road. Detectives with the Marion Police Department are investigating the theft, deputies said.

Deputies said after stealing the truck, Cable crashed it along Mount Pleasant Church Drive near Goose Creek Road. They said he fled on foot until he was arrested. Marion police, the Highway Patrol, McDowell County Emergency Management and McDowell County EMS helped in the manhunt.

During their investigation, deputies said they linked Cable to two other stolen vehicle cases.

On Monday, a Nebo man reported that someone stole a Ford F-650 flatbed truck from his property, along with eight rifles, two crossbows and his 6-month-old English coon dog, according to deputies. Deputies said the dog is still missing.

Deputies said one of their detectives recovered three of the guns, the truck and some tools.

In the field beside Soapy Suds, deputies said they found a $40,000 Road Boss crash truck reported stolen Tuesday from Maymead Inc., of Mountain City, TN.

According to deputies, Cable allegedly stole the crash truck from the side of the U.S. 221 bypass, drove it to the field where it was left and then took the dump truck.

Deputies said a charge of larceny of a motor vehicle is forthcoming in connection with one case and Cable was also charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering, larceny of a motor vehicle and larceny after breaking and entering.
