An Iva man charged with shooting and killing a Belton man was denied bond for a second time on Wednesday, FOX Carolina crews in court reported.
Deputies said they believe it was a dispute that sparked the gunfire on Williamson Drive off Lamar Mitchell Road on Dec. 11.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said Jody Powell, 41, of Iva, died at AnMed Hospital after he was shot multiple times.
Lt. Sheila Cole with the sheriff's office said Powell was at a home on Williamson Drive when his parked car was hit by the suspect. She said when Powell went out to see what happened, an argument broke out between the two, leading to the shooting.
Cole said deputies took the suspect, identified as Bobby Arflin, 61, into custody at the scene. The two cars were towed away, deputies said.
According to the arrest warrants, Arflin intentionally hit Powell's truck, causing $2,500 in damage. Cole said so far, investigators do not believe Powell and the suspect knew each other prior to the shooting.
Arflin was charged with murder, malicious injury to personal property and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
He was originally denied bond and was granted a second bond hearing on Wednesday.
FOX Carolina crews were in court when Arflin was denied bond for the second time. Arflin's attorney asked the judge for a reasonable bond so he could be under electronic monitoring at his mother's house. His attorney said Arflin is a cancer patient with serious health issues.
The prosecutor said Arflin is a dangerous man to society and wanted bond to be denied, which it was. Arflin will be able to refile for bond in 90 days.
