Deputies: Suspect in custody after fleeing deadly wreck in Polk Co.

COLUMBUS, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A suspect surrendered after a short manhunt in Polk County, NC, where the suspect fled the scene of an accident that resulted in a death.

On Jan. 13, deputies said they located Daryl Faulkner suffering from head injuries after being thrown from the back of a truck on Mountain Range Road.

The driver of the truck, Travis Faulkner, fled on foot, and deputies started a manhunt for him, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Donald Hill was able to contact Travis Faulkner by phone during the search and negotiated his surrender, the sheriff's office said in a release.

After an hour long search, Travis Faulkner exited the woods in the area and was taken into custody by Hill, the sheriff's office said.

On Wed., Jan. 17, Daryl Faulkner died of his injuries at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

Travis Faulkner has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle by the NC Highway Patrol.
