UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Union County Sheriff's Office is warning the community about a scam targeting cell phone users on Thursday.

The sheriff's office said on their Facebook page that residents are getting calls from a recorded message claiming to be a credit card company, but it is actually scammers.

The message asks people to call a number and leave your name and credit card number, and they will get back to you if there are problems.

Sheriff David Taylor has verified the scam and said the calls are coming from another country, even though they have a 205 area code.

The sheriff's office said to not give any information and it is best to just ignore the call.
