GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers said there was a fatal accident on Interstate 85 southbound in Cherokee County on Thursday night.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said a Dodge Ram pickup truck was driving fast when it hit the back of a car near the 102 exit about 9:40 p.m. He said the truck overturned, throwing both people inside from the vehicle. The truck stopped atop the cable barrier in the median.

Fowler said neither occupant was wearing seatbelts, and one was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center while the other died at the scene of the crash.

He identified the victim as Brannon Harrison, 38, of Gaffney.

The driver of the car, who was from Lakewood, FL, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Fowler said. The crash backed up traffic along I-85 for a while during the investigation.

According to Fowler, investigators were still working to determine who was driving the truck at the time of the crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner's office are investigating.
