ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Two Buncombe County residents died of the flu this week, according to the Buncombe County Health and Human Services.

The two deaths bring the total number of flu deaths in North Carolina up to 33 as of Jan. 24.

HHS said the flu deaths occurred in people with chronic illness who were at greater risk of severe illness or death from influenza.

One person who died of the flu was between the age of 50-64 years of age and the other was over 65, according to HHS.

HHS said most of the virus going around is H1N1 and primarily infects young and middle-aged adults.
