EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Pickens County deputies said a man attacked a woman and barricaded himself in her home for more than two hours while SWAT teams negotiated with him.

Deputies said the victim called 911 around 8:30 a.m. Saturday and reported that Kelvin Smith was attempting to break in her house on Kingswood Way in Easley through the back door.

Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said deputies, SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team arrived at the house and began trying to persuade the suspect to let the woman go and surrender. Hashe said two hours later Smith walked out onto the front porch armed with a lock blade knife. Smith was stunned with a stun gun and taken into custody, Hashe said.

Smith was transported to the hospital for treatment and then to the Pickens County Detention Center where he will be charged with several felony charges in addition to outstanding arrest warrants from Greenville County, Hashe said

The victim was also transported to a hospital where she is also being treated for injuries, Hashe said. She is expected to be treated and released.

Hashe said there was never a threat to anyone else in the community during the incident.
