BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters in Blacksburg were called to a house fire on Mullinax Circle around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

They said that an elderly woman with her dog were inside the 130-year-old home. Firefighters were able to get the woman out safely, but the dog died in the blaze.

Around 45 firefighters from five fire departments have used at least 30,000 gallons of water as they fought flames for more than three hours.

Investigators said they believe the fire may have started because of the heater.

Firefighters are concerned about flames expanding because of dry leaves and the wind.

Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department's chief said that the homeowner is staying with her family.
