SC Forestry Commission lifts outdoor burning ban

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Forestry Commission lifted the Red Flag Alert on outdoor burning Sunday.

Fire managers said they ended the alert because calmer winds and higher relative humidity values mean fire is less likely to spread.

Fire managers do want to warn people that the Southeast is in the midst of wildfire season and they say extreme care should be taken with all forms of outdoor burning to prevent wildfires from starting.

During the Red Flag Alert, fire managers said the SCFC responded to 51 fires statewide. No injuries were reported in those incidents.

Fire managers also advise residents to check with local officials before burning because some local jurisdictions may still have a burning ban in place.
