Police: Man charged following hit-and-run that killed bicyclist

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville Police said they arrested the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a bicyclist.

Coroners Parks Evans said Abraham Bookhart, Jr., 33, of Skyland Drive, died in the crash.

Evans said Bookhart was riding a bicycle along the 2900 block of Laurens Road just before 3 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by a car, which then fled the scene of the crash.

Evans said Bookhart was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:21 a.m.

Greenville Police officer Johnathan Bragg said officers located the suspect, Damian Hughes, on Ridge Road and took him into custody.

Bragg said Hughes was charged with hit and run involving death.

Evans said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Hughes in being held on no bond at the Greenville County Detention Center.
