EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside his home Sunday.

Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said deputies were called to the home on Devon Court in the Dacusville area of Easley about 3:45 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies found Shane Williams, 38, dead at the scene with apparent gunshot wounds, Hashe said.

The victim's wife and a small child were inside the home at the time and told deputies that they were awakened by what sounded like gunshots and moments later discovered Williams' body on the floor, Hashe said. He said deputies found no signs of forced entry.

Hashe said a five-member homicide team is investigating the death and they have sent off forensic evidence to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division labs, asking for an expedited exam.

Investigators are still waiting on the autopsy results before they may release further information. Hashe said the autopsy will help them determine the exact cause and manner of death and expect the results later Monday.

While early in the investigation, Hashe said they believe Williams' death was an isolated incident and, "There is no obvious threat to the community."

No suspects have been identified in the case, Hashe said.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to families of the victim and I will continue to devote the necessary resources to determine the facts in this case so that the families can have the answers that they deserve," said Sheriff Rick Clark.

Hashe said investigators have ruled out suicide as a possibility and are categorizing the incident as a homicide.

Williams' pastor Wayne Garmon said the death has rocked the tight-knit community.

"The family is having a hard time, the church family is having a hard time, this is something you hope you never have to wake up to," Garmon said.

Garmon said Williams was a deacon at Cedar Rock Baptist Church, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

Williams loved hunting and was looking forward to hunting with his young son, Garmon said. He said he is looking forward to seeing whoever killed Williams brought to justice.

Funeral arrangements for Williams are set for Wednesday, with a visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. followed by a service and burial at the family's church.

Anyone that may have seen or heard anything is asked to call the Pickens County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
