WILLIAMSTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A well-known business and family man in Anderson County passed away on Friday, so friends took to the streets to honor him with a tow-truck procession.

Sammy Ellison, 72, died Friday after a battle with cancer. He was owner and operator of Sammy Ellison's Garage and Wrecker Service in Williamston.

To honor Ellison, dozens of tow trucks lined up to proceed past his shop en route to his funeral. Ellison's funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ellison was one of the founding members of the Williamston Rescue Squad. According to his obituary, Ellison was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army as well as the National Guard.

Memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House at 1835 Rogers Rd. in Anderson or to Cedar Grove Baptist Church at 13024 Hwy. 20 in Belton.
