FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The MAHLE Group's components and systems are featured on nine of the 10 engines recently named to the Ward's list of 10 Best Engines for 2014.
Celebrating its 20th year, Ward's 10 Best Engines competition was created to recognize outstanding powertrain achievement, world-class technologies and rare engines or electric propulsion systems "that are so compelling they help sell the vehicle."
To be eligible, engines must be available in a production vehicle on sale within the first quarter of 2104 with a base price less than $60,000.
Industry-leading MAHLE components and systems featured on the 2014 award-winning engines include: piston systems and cylinder components as well as valve-train, air-management, liquid-management and thermal-management systems.
"The fact that once again MAHLE's engine components and systems are featured on 90 percent of these industry-leading engines is a testament to our engineering and product development teams," said Scott Ferriman, MAHLE's North American Vice President of Sales and Application Engineering. "We continually strive to supply our global customers with the revolutionary powertrain technologies they have come to expect from The MAHLE Group."

Ward's editors noted that six advanced diesel engines in multiple vehicle segments "shook up the competition" this year with all six scoring well. It also was the first time that more than two diesels have made the Ward's 10 Best Engines list in a single year.
With its two business units Engine Systems and Components as well as Filtration and Engine Peripherals, MAHLE ranks among the top three systems suppliers worldwide. In 2014, the Behr Group-which ranks among the leading OEMs worldwide in vehicle air conditioning and engine cooling-was integrated into the MAHLE Group as the Thermal Management business unit. All of the Group's non-automotive activities are combined in the Industry business unit with products from the application areas of filtration, thermal management, and large engines for industrial purposes. The Aftermarket business unit serves the independent spare parts market with MAHLE products in OE quality.
MAHLE has a local presence in all major world markets. In 2014, some 65,000 employees at 140 production locations and 10 major research and development centers are expected to generate sales of around EUR 10 billion (USD 12.9 billion).
