ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Hartwell County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said a chase that started in Hartwell, GA, ended in a two-car wreck in Anderson, SC, early Tuesday morning.

Cleveland said they received reports of a suspicious person who was pulled up to a store that had been closed several hours just after midnight.

When deputies got to the scene, they say the driver sped away, tried to run into a deputy's car attempting to block the vehicle and a chase ensued on US 29 south.

The chase continued into Anderson County where the chase continued on Highway 81/Mary Avenue and eventually into the city of Anderson down to Park Drive.

That's where Cleveland said the driver ran into a parked car, totaling it, and eventually came to a stop in a baseball field.

Witnesses said they saw the man throwing something out the car, so authorities are on the scene searching the area.

The driver was taken to the hospital. There's no word yet on any charges or his condition.
