HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A school bus with students onboard overturned in Henderson County after leaving for early dismissal on Tuesday.

The Henderson County Schools superintendent David Jones said six students and the driver were on board when the bus overturned on Livingston Road.

Jones said the students on the bus were from Apple Valley Middle School and North Henderson High School.

According to Jones the bus was traveling down a slight incline when it lost traction, hit a ditch and overturned on its side.

Emergency crews transported a junior from Henderson High to the hospital with a possible fractured ankle.

Jones said the school district decided to release students at 1 p.m. on Tuesday because of the winter weather.
