GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said a Greenville County man is accused of shooting two people walking past his house after he claimed they were throwing things at his home.
According to Lt. Tim Ridgeway of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, the two victims and another person were walking on West Marion Road to get an Xbox after their TV went out from the storm when a homeowner came out and asked what they were doing.
An argument ensued and the three people left. About 30 minutes later, they were walking back to their destination with the Xbox when they had a confrontation with the homeowner again, Ridgeway said.
According to Ridgeway, it was reported the homeowner went inside and retrieved an AR-22 rifle and fired at the victims, striking two of them.
Deputy Drew Pinciaro said the homeowner, Jason Stanley Hall, 41, refused to give a verbal account of the incident, but a person inside the home said they heard dogs barking and Hall went to see what was going on.
The witness stated there was a verbal altercation and Hall came back inside, according to Pinciaro.
The witness then stated that Hall observed the same three people and said they threw an object with a flame at the home, Pinciaro said in a release.
The witness then told officers Hall began firing at the individuals.
When deputies arrived they found two gunshot victims laying in a ditch near 14 West Marion Rd., according to deputies.
Ridgeway said one victim was shot in the stomach and the other was shot in the leg and the stomach. He said both victims were in stable condition on Tuesday night.
According to Ridgeway, deputies had a difficult time getting to the scene because of the icy roads following Tuesday's snowstorm.
William Cantrell lives next door to Hall and says he saw Hall open fire. "We saw the guys walking down the street and the guy [Hall] just came out and started shooting," Cantrell said.
Cantrell's wife, Annie, says after the men were shot they fell in a ditch and begged Hall to stop shooting but he didn't. "I heard them scream for help and say, 'Don't shoot, don't shoot,' and then continuous pops," Annie Cantrell said.
The Cantrells said they heard at least nine shots fired.
Jonathan Smith with the sheriff's office said Hall was charged with three counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
