Frigid start, but warmer end to Friday for western Carolinas

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

While everyone experienced bitterly cold temperatures through the early morning hours on Friday, keeping the roads treacherous on isolated spots, the warmup has begun.

The concern for black ice remained in some areas, but it did not last long as sunny skies began the temperature climb into the 50s during Friday afternoon for the Upstate and upper 40s for the mountains.

Early in the afternoon Friday, most temperatures were in the mid-to-upper 40s across the area.

The weekend will bring even warmer temperatures, as highs will rise to near 60 by Sunday.

Showers will push in by late Saturday, but it won't be a wash-out for the weekend.  There will just be a few showers to dodge for Super Bowl Sunday.
