SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Simpsonville woman was arrested after deputies said she threatened to shoot a woman she was arguing with and the gun went off while a baby was nearby.

Greenville County deputies said Margaret Wharton, 59, was arguing with someone at her Kelsey Glen Lane home when their fight became physical and she pulled out a gun.

Deputies told FOX Carolina on Wednesday that the argument was between Wharton and her daughter-in-law.

Wharton pointed the gun at the woman, saying "she would shoot her ***," according to her arrest warrant.

The victim struggled with Wharton and the gun went off, hitting Wharton in the breast, deputies said. Wharton was treated for her injury and deputies said they learned she was the aggressor.

Deputies said a 5-month-old child was in the room next door and Wharton was taking care of the baby at the time.

Wharton was charged with unlawful neglect of a child, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
